Big Rapids Public Schools continues to be on the leading edge of educating youth in this geographical area. Our goal is to make sure that each one of our students, whether they are beginning their educational journey as kindergarteners or finishing their BRPS career as high school seniors, are exposed to the highest level of education possible. Furthermore, we see it as our sacred trust to make sure that all students have the opportunity to develop to their absolute greatest potential.
There is no debate that BRPS strives to achieve above the norm in educational leadership amongst its peers. We have made it our commitment to move well beyond the State average in Advanced Placement classes and dual enrollment in our High School, our ACT and MEAP scores help to bear this out.
But it also must be understood that no matter how strong the high school curriculum is in any school district, the foundation for students' success is planted firmly at the elementary and middle school levels. Big Rapids Public Schools understands this and works hard to make sure that our young students are challenged on a daily basis.
We are extremely proud to report that all of our elementary schools achieved an "A" on the Michigan Education Yes! Report Card this past year. We are equally proud to report that our high school was granted "Blue Ribbon" status by the State of Michigan last year as well. Our middle school also stepped up by increasing their percentage scores on the Education Yes! Report Card as well.
A well-rounded curriculum does not end with textbooks and State test scores, however. BRPS takes great pride in possessing a fine arts program that is second to none. From Band, Tactile Arts, and Performing Arts, to a myriad of other arts-based classes, Big Rapids Public Schools makes sure that students understand the importance of all Fine and Practical Arts.
Athletics and other extracurricular activities play a huge part in the lives of our students. These activities help all of our students learn to achieve goals together in a cooperative way, whether they are on a soccer or golf team or participating in the National Honor Society.
As superintendent of Big Rapids Public Schools, I can say that it is a pleasure to serve the youth of this area. We will continue to work hard to help each child reach his or her highest potential. That is our goal, mission, and passion. As you look through this Annual Report, you will see the fruition of our efforts and each student's hard work.
