Brookside Elementary

At Brookside Elementary, The Leader in Me is beginning to be embedded in everything we do. The Leader in Me provides our children with solid principles and skills to be successful beyond the school day and well into their future! Our students and staff are implementing the 7 Habits (life skills from Dr. Stephen Covey's book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People".

In the Spring of 2015, our school was granted a five year grant from the I Am a Leader Foundation and a plan of implementation was created through collaboration with the Franklin Covey organization. This has truly been a year of growth and opportunity for students and staff.

On April 27th Brookside hosted our Leadership Day. We invited parents, community members and our classroom mentors to see how the 7 Habits are implemented throughout the day.  Some of our highlights were: leadership notebooks, student leadership roles within the building, sharing their “glows and grows”, and 7 Habits songs/chants.  Students and staff were able to showcase the enhancements to our environment and how it has improved the culture at Brookside.

Brookside Elementary School is very excited to continue our innovative Community Mentor program. Involving members of the Big Rapids community to share their wisdom and be a positive role model in the classroom.

To celebrate March is Reading Month, Brookside held a Reading & Writing Night with fun and educational activities for our students and families.  The entire school took part in the program, One School, One Book. Every student was given The World According to Humphrey and many parents were involved with reading to their child along with other activities for the month.
