Eligibility
All students who live within the Big Rapids Public School district lines are eligible to ride the bus. If you are a School of Choice family and wish to utilize busing, families would be responsible for transporting your student to the nearest 'school of choice' bus stop within the district.
Bus Stop Locations
Our Transportation Department establishes group stops for students who live within BRPS school district limits. Bus stops for students outside school district limits will be established as a school of choice stop locations for mass pickup only. All bus stops have to take visibility and safety into consideration and stopping in certain locations is simply not legal for school buses. Line of sight issues such as curves, trees, and hills have a huge impact on a safe bus stop. The law states that a school bus needs 400 feet of clear, unobstructed visibility from the front and back of the bus and from the roof line to the bumper to have a legal and safe stop location for students.
Please call the bus garage if you have any questions about bus stops in your location.
Important Bus Rules
The safety of the students and drivers on and around buses is of utmost importance to the BRPS Transportation Department. We advise parents to review the Bus Safety Rules with their students. Even if they don't ride a bus to or from school, it's likely that your student will be on a bus at some point during their time at BRPS and it is important for them to know how to be safe when that time comes.
Morning Route Reminders

Students should be at their pick-up point 5 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.

Please talk to your student about being safe while waiting to be picked up. Staying off the street or roadway is just one topic that should be discussed. Please reference 'Bus Safety Rules' for more information.

Proper conduct is an important factor in the safe operation of the bus. The district feels that the conduct of the students on the bus is the responsibility of the driver, the student, and the parents. The BRPS Transportation Department Discipline Process can be found here.
