Big Rapids Public Schools is excited to welcome Liz McPherson as the new School Social Worker at Brookside Elementary! With a passion for supporting students' social-emotional well-being and helping children thrive, Mrs. McPherson is looking forward to partnering with students, families, and staff as she joins the Cardinal community.
Originally from Evart, Mrs. McPherson earned her master's degree in Social Work from Ferris State University in 2020. Her commitment to helping others has guided her educational and professional journey, preparing her to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.
Before joining Big Rapids Public Schools, Mrs. McPherson spent five years serving students at Evart Public Schools, where she developed a passion for helping children navigate challenges, build healthy relationships, and strengthen their social-emotional skills.
"I have always felt inspired to work in a helping profession," she shared. "I love working with kids and helping them understand social-emotional needs and mental health."
That passion, combined with the welcoming atmosphere of the community, made Big Rapids Public Schools the perfect place for her next chapter.
"Big Rapids has always been such a wonderful community, and I am honored to be a part of this school district."
Family is at the center of Mrs. McPherson's life. She and her husband are raising a busy household of five children, ranging in age from 4 to 19. Whether they're enjoying everyday adventures or celebrating special milestones, she treasures the opportunity to create lasting memories with her family.
When she's not at school, Mrs. McPherson enjoys relaxing with a good book, coloring, spending time at the beach, and making the most of family time together.
Students and families may also be surprised to learn that Mrs. McPherson is a licensed cosmetologist—a fun fact that reflects her diverse interests and lifelong love of learning.
As she begins her first year at Brookside Elementary, Mrs. McPherson is excited to build strong relationships with students and families while helping every child feel supported, understood, and empowered to succeed. She looks forward to fostering a caring school environment where students know they are valued, encouraged, and equipped with the social-emotional skills they need both in and out of the classroom.
