Welcome, Mr. Shawn Anderson

Big Rapids Middle School is excited to welcome Mr. Shawn Anderson as the new Physical Education and Health teacher! A proud Central Michigan University graduate (Fire Up Chips!) Mr. Anderson brings a deep passion for teaching, a strong work ethic rooted in his farm life, and a dedication to helping students grow both physically and mentally.

Originally from Kent City, Shawn graduated from high school in 2020 and then attended CMU, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education in May 2025. His education journey was fueled by a simple but powerful goal: “To make a positive impact on the lives of students. I hope I can inspire a love of learning while helping students reach their full potential.”

Before stepping into the classroom, Shawn worked on his family’s beef farm, home to around 50 head of cattle and more animals than he can count. He credits this experience for teaching him responsibility, perseverance, and the value of hard work—traits that will serve him well in his teaching career.

When he’s not at school, Shawn loves spending time with family and friends, especially outdoors. Whether it’s camping with his family or watching and playing sports, he enjoys staying active and connected to those he cares about.

Shawn comes from a close-knit family that includes his mom, dad, and two younger siblings—his brother will be a senior and his sister a freshman in high school this fall. While he doesn’t have kids of his own yet, his life on the farm has included plenty of animal companions!

And here’s a fun fact that might surprise you: Mr. Anderson’s family is in the Guinness Book of World Records! His grandfather was number 14 of 16 siblings, and together they hold the record for the longest combined age of living siblings.

Please join us in giving a warm Big Rapids welcome to Mr. Anderson! We’re thrilled to have him on our team and can’t wait to see the positive impact he’ll have on our students.
