Big Rapids Public Schools is adopting a more efficient and environmentally responsible approach to sharing information from outside organizations. Instead of sending printed flyers home with students, BRPS will now post approved materials from approved community partners on our new Virtual Backpack webpage.
This change is expected to reduce paper use, save staff time, and make it easier for families to access community information year-round.
School-related announcements, classroom updates, and student assignments will still be sent home in student backpacks. Families should continue to check backpacks regularly for important school communications.
To share your organization's flyer, please visit https://www.brps.org/page/flyers.
To find flyers, click on the 'Virtual Backpack' button beneath the photo gallery on the BRPS homepage at www.brps.org.

The administrative, student service, and PTO teams partnered up to be sure that every student get a positive message when they open their locker this morning. Parents participated at open house by writing notes and the admin team placed them in lockers this evening. The goal is to make sure that every student knows that they matter, they are valued and they are cared about at BRMS. This year is gonna be a great year.

🎉 Big day at Big Rapids Middle School! Today we honored our 5th, 6th, and 7th graders with Academic Awards and recognition for Extra-Curricular Involvement! 🏅📚🏀🎭🎶
Our Cardinals continue to soar—in the classroom, on the field, and in all they do. Here's a look at some proud moments from the ceremony! 📸👏
We look forward to celebrating our 8th-grade class tomorrow!

Congratulations to Easton Cline, the winner of our 7th Grade Logo Competition! Easton completed this project in Mrs. Lukas’ technology class and showed an outstanding knack for design. Mrs. Lukas is so proud of his creativity and hard work—way to go, Easton!

This Memorial Day, we pause to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.
Big Rapids Public Schools honors their legacy with gratitude and respect.
Reminder: There will be no school on Monday, May 26 in observance of the holiday.

At the end of last week 6th grade science students were able to interact with Sea Lamprey as part of their life science lesson! Several staff participated in demonstrating what an attached Sea Lamprey looks and feels like!

📣 Reminder: Teacher Appreciation Week Shout-Outs! 📣
We kicked off our shout-out campaign earlier this week, and we’ve already seen several wonderful messages come in — thank you! ❤️
As we continue celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, don’t forget you can still recognize any BRPS staff member who’s made a difference — teachers, support staff, office team, bus drivers, and more.
It only takes a minute to brighten someone’s day!
💬 Submit your shout-out here: https://forms.gle/sAi94p8decyaWoiS8
Let’s keep the gratitude going strong!

The 7th and 8th grade STEAM students visited Brookside Elementary to read their children’s storybooks on the creation of an environmental policy they had created to celebrate Earth Day. The collaboration between the middle and elementary school students was amazing to see, and STEAM students were able to reflect on their presentation skills and what they’d do differently next time. Thanks to all of the staff at Brookside for making this possible for our middle school STEAM students!

Today in STEAM 7th and 8th grade students visited the Big Rapids Water Treatment Plant. Students learned where the city’s water comes from, how it is treated, and even got to see the control room at the plant. Thanks to the staff at the Big Rapids Water Treatment Plant for connecting our students with our water!

During Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9), we extend our gratitude to all our dedicated staff members at BRPS.
This year, we're opening up shout-out submissions to celebrate and recognize not just our teachers, but all staff members across departments such as food service, front office, maintenance, transportation, administration, and paraprofessionals.
A 'shout-out' can be submitted by adults or students, with no limit on submissions. These messages will be shared throughout the week of May 5th, and while the submission form closes on May 9th, personal notes of encouragement are always welcomed and valued.
Share your shout-outs by using this form: https://forms.gle/sAi94p8decyaWoiS8
Thank you for helping us celebrate and appreciate our Big Rapids Public Schools teachers and staff.
We R BR!
