Big Rapids Public Schools is excited to welcome Mrs. Sally McKenney to the Eastwood Elementary team as our new Special Education teacher! With a heart for students and years of experience across Michigan schools, Mrs. McKenney brings a deep commitment to student success and a passion for hands-on learning.
Originally from Onaway, MI, she attended Onaway Area Community Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. Over the years, she has taught in several communities across the state, including Webberville, Alanson, Battle Creek, Colon, and Evart—an adventure made possible through her husband Wayne’s career. The couple has been married for 32 years and enjoys spending time with their growing family, including daughter Michelle, son-in-law Adam, and their grandchildren Saoirse and Eoin. Their son John and his wife Elizabeth round out the family, along with their golden retriever, Chai.
Outside the classroom, Sally enjoys reading, gardening, and making memories with her grandchildren. A fun and unexpected fact? She also loves construction and has helped remodel two homes in recent years!
What drew her to Big Rapids Public Schools? “I was inspired to work at BRPS because students come first,” she shared. That student-centered mindset aligns perfectly with the culture at Eastwood, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.
Please join us in welcoming Mrs. McKenney to our Cardinal family!
