Welcome Ms. Madelyn Oman!

Big Rapids Public Schools is excited to welcome Ms. Madelyn Oman to Riverview Elementary as our new 1st grade teacher! Originally from Stevensville, Michigan (a charming beach town along Lake Michigan), Ms. Oman brings small-town warmth, a passion for teaching, and a deep love of learning to her classroom.

A proud graduate of Bridgman Public Schools and a recent graduate of Ferris State University, Ms. Oman completed her student teaching right here at Riverview last spring. “From my very first week, I felt so welcomed by the staff, students, and families,” she shared. “The strong sense of community in Big Rapids made a lasting impression, and I knew I wanted to come back.”

Madelyn’s journey into education was a natural one, shaped by her patient and empathetic nature. Whether tutoring classmates or volunteering her time, she’s always felt drawn to helping others—especially children. She’s thrilled that Riverview is the place where she begins her first full-time teaching role.

Family plays a big part in her life. Her parents have been her biggest supporters, even helping her set up her very first classroom, and she’s proud to watch her younger sister follow a similar path into education. She also shares her life with Nova, her energetic one-year-old dog who keeps things joyful and full of love.

When she’s not in the classroom, Ms. Oman enjoys heading back to her hometown to enjoy Lake Michigan sunsets, beach walks, and live music at community events. And here’s a fun fact; she’s a huge sports fan! Fall Saturdays are reserved for Michigan football, and her family has even attended Big Ten games and the 2024 National Championship.

Please join us in giving Ms. Oman a warm Cardinal welcome as she begins her teaching journey at Riverview!
