For the past twenty-five years, one name has been synonymous with energy, laughter, and an undeniable passion for teaching at Riverview Elementary: Traci Fox. Known affectionately across the hallways, classrooms, and playgrounds as "Foxy," she is preparing to wrap up a quarter-century of dedication to Big Rapids Public Schools as she officially enters retirement.
Throughout her multi-decade career, Traci has served as a cornerstone of growth for hundreds of young Cardinals. She began her journey teaching Junior First Grade for five years, transitioned to third grade for twelve years, and has spent the last eight years working as a looping teacher across third and fourth grades. This looping structure allowed her to move alongside her cohorts of students for two consecutive years, forging deep bonds that transformed her classroom into a tight-knit family.
Slimed, Smiling, and Making Memories
While Traci’s teaching career is filled with milestones, her absolute favorite standout memory perfectly encapsulates her fun-loving, student-first approach to education. When asked to look back on her finest hour, she didn’t name an exam or a standard lesson plan. Instead, she joyfully recalled the day she was publicly slimed alongside Riverview Principal Renee Kent and fellow educator Mrs. Scheible!
It is exactly that willingness to match her students' energy and create a joyful atmosphere that has made "Foxy" a legend at Riverview. When asked what she is most proud of looking back on her career, Traci’s response highlights a rare and beautiful loyalty: "Staying with the same district for 25 years and working for BRPS." In an era of constant transition, her steadfast dedication to Big Rapids has left a permanent, positive mark on the fabric of the community.
Words of Wisdom
That foundational philosophy is the core piece of advice Traci leaves behind for the next generation of educators stepping into the classrooms of BRPS:
"Have fun with your students and build relationships with your students."
For Traci, true learning can only happen once a student feels known, safe, and valued. Her daily routine was built on a simple framework: ensuring that school was a place of fun, comfort, and mutual respect.
Leaving the Nest, But Always a Cardinal
As she prepares for her final walk down the Riverview hallways, Traci admits that the daily rhythm of the school year will be incredibly hard to leave behind. "I will miss seeing my coworkers each day, seeing the students smile and learn, coaching, and simply working for a great district," she shared.
How do you summarize a legendary, twenty-five-year legacy in just three words? Traci looks back and proudly calls it: "A Fabulous Run."
As for her immediate plans, her retirement calendar is already filling up with wonderful bucket-list moments. Traci is incredibly excited to step into her role as a full-time fan of her daughter, Hadley, cheering her on as she plays soccer for Aquinas College. She also looks forward to focusing entirely on quality time with her family and enjoying the freedom to travel whenever the inspiration strikes!
Thank you, Traci "Foxy" Fox, for twenty-five years of bright smiles, tireless service, and beautiful relationships. The Riverview family and the entire Big Rapids community will deeply miss your presence, but your incredible legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.
Congratulations on a truly fabulous run!
