Big Rapids Public Schools is thrilled to announce a very familiar face is stepping into a vital leadership role! Heather Zocco, a dedicated educator who has been teaching at Riverview Elementary since 2015, has been named the school's new principal.
With over a decade of deep roots in the Riverview community, Mrs. Zocco brings invaluable classroom experience, strong relationships, and a vibrant energy to the principal's office.
To help our families, students, and staff get to know her in this new leadership capacity, we sat down with Mrs. Zocco for a special spotlight interview.

Q: How does your experience as a Riverview teacher shape the way you plan to lead the school as principal?
Mrs. Zocco: "As a teacher, I have been able to be a part of many Riverview and district committees to learn all about many aspects of what happens in all areas of curriculum, data, and building relationships with staff and students."
Q: What are you most excited about as you transition from the classroom to the principal’s office?
Mrs. Zocco: "I am most excited about being able to interact with all students and families. I value those relationships and want to be able to work hard, but continue to have fun after that work is done!"
Q: What is your main priority or focus for Riverview Elementary as we kick off the upcoming school year?
Mrs. Zocco: "My main priority is continuing the strong tradition that Ms. Kent has built. Continuing with high expectations while creating great memories for our students."
Q: If you could tell the Riverview students just one thing about what kind of principal you're going to be, what would it be?
Mrs. Zocco: "Energetic!"
Q: What is one thing the Riverview community might be surprised to learn about you?
Mrs. Zocco: "I have two children who have been to different Nationals—my daughter for hockey and my son for e-sports!"
