Last Friday, BRHS students visited Grand Rapids Community College to explore campus, learn about programs and admissions, and discuss what transferring to a four-year university can look like.
Experiences like this help students see that success after high school looks different for everyone—and that community college is a valuable, accessible, and empowering pathway. With the Community College Guarantee, these opportunities are within reach for more students than ever.

Big Rapids High School students had the opportunity to attend Ferris State University’s Jill of All Trades event—and it is truly empowering.
Our group of 18 young women joined students from neighboring districts and rotated through three hands-on workshops, gaining experience in programs such as welding, manufacturing, automotive, electronics and automation, product design, heavy equipment, plastics, surveying, and architecture/facility management.
This event goes far beyond exposure—it provides young women with the opportunity to step into high-demand skilled trades and STEM fields and actively engage in the work. Ferris State University creates a supportive, judgment-free environment where students are encouraged every step of the way by dedicated staff and student volunteers who genuinely care about their success.
You could see the confidence building in real time—students trying new skills, problem-solving, and realizing, “I can do this.”
That is the power of Jill of All Trades. It opens doors, challenges perceptions, and expands what students believe is possible for their future.
Grateful for opportunities like this and incredibly proud of our BRHS students for showing up, stepping in, and embracing the experience.
