Earlier today a dedication was held for the new Big Rapids Middle School Buddy Bench. The Buddy Bench has been a collaborative effort that was started by one of our middle school parents Timbree Cosby. The idea behind the Buddy Bench is to create a welcoming and safe place on our playground for students to connect with other students and make new friends. Supporting and making the Buddy Bench possible were our community partners at Big Rapids Public Safety, Mecosta County Sheriff's Department and Dave Hamlin of Hamtec Incorporated.
Participating in the Buddy Bench dedication are the following members pictured below seated on the bench from left to right parent Timbree Cosby and middle school student CaLeea Cosby. Standing from left to right Deputy Chief Scott Paquette, Firefighter/EMT Bethany Hamilton, BRPS Superintendent Tim Haist, firefighter/EMT Michael Weaver, Sheriff Brian Miller, Officer Derek Mol, School Liaison Officer Andre Torres, BRMS Principal Joshua Bull and BRMS Assistant Candance Nielsen.

Welcome back BR!
Reminder- today (8/22) school gets dismissed at 11:30am.
Tomorrow (8/23) is a full day.

Let's have a great year!

We are thrilled to introduce our new district-wide safety signage at BRPS!
These signs will enhance emergency response times, ensuring the safety of our students and staff. Each sign features a removable nameplate, providing a flexible and long-lasting solution for classroom or teacher changes. The signs will also help with wayfinding throughout our buildings for students, staff, or guests.
This project was funded by a safety grant, which also supports the installation of exterior signs across all campuses to deter unauthorized personnel from approaching school buildings. These measures are part of our ongoing commitment to creating safe learning environments for everyone at BRPS.
Check out these new safety signs at open houses next week!

Today in Mrs. Tanners classroom 5th grade students debated which book, Shipwreck Island or Storm Runners, better fit into the genre of "Adventure." Students worked all last week preparing their statements for today, finding evidence from the text to support their arguments, and practicing their speaking and listening skills. Additionally, they had a few special guests, Judge Marshall and Officer Torres, acting as bailiff! The court concluded that " Storms Runners" was the winner! Way to go 5th graders!
Choose what book you think is more "Adventure" and let us know in the comments!
