Our 4th graders in Ms.Sticklers class have been studying all about Engineering and Energy transfer, and how energy is stored. Yesterday the students built chain reactions to reveal a message at the end. The kids had so much fun. They were great little engineers working together in teams to make their chain reactions work.

March is Reading Month is in full swing at Riverview Elementary! The hallways and classrooms have been transformed with colorful fairytale decorations, bringing favorite storybook characters and magical scenes to life. From castles and crowns to dragons and enchanted forests, the building is filled with imagination and excitement. These creative displays help inspire students to dive into books and enjoy the magic that reading can bring.

Riverview Elementary is proud to have our talented students’ artwork featured at the Artworks Art Attack! From March 16 through April 16, the community is invited to stop in and enjoy the creativity and imagination of our young artists on display. Each piece reflects the hard work, unique ideas, and artistic talents of Riverview students. We encourage families and community members to visit and celebrate the amazing artwork our students have created! 🎨✨

March is Reading Month has been such an exciting time in our elementary school! Classrooms are buzzing with the joy of books, as students dive into new adventures and discover the magic of reading each day. One of the highlights of the month is our Reading Buddies program. Older students partner with younger learners, sharing stories, laughter, and a love for books. It’s wonderful to see friendships form as they practice fluency, build confidence, and model strong reading skills. Reading Month reminds us that reading together not only strengthens literacy skills, but also builds community and connection throughout our school.

Students and staff gathered for an exciting kickoff assembly to celebrate March is Reading Month at Riverview Elementary. 📚✨ The assembly featured special guest Masked Readers who shared their love of books and read aloud to inspire students to dive into great stories all month long. Laughter, imagination, and enthusiasm filled the room as students listened closely and discovered how fun reading can be. The kickoff set the stage for a month full of books, creativity, and adventures through reading. 📖🎉

Four classrooms from Riverview Elementary recently enjoyed a fun and educational visit to the MOCC Agricultural Center. Students had the opportunity to explore the agricultural center and learn more about animals, farming, and how agriculture plays an important role in our community. The visit allowed students to see firsthand how food is produced and how animals are cared for. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience, and the students were excited to ask questions and discover new things. Thank you to the staff at the agricultural center for welcoming our Riverview students and sharing their knowledge! 🌾🐄📚

Mrs Wanink's, 2nd grade class, made posters for a couple of their reading buddies to wish them luck tonight as they compete in their regional championship hockey game in Tawas. The Riverview students will be cheering them on and hoping they bring home a big win! 🏒📚👏

Congratulations to Mrs. Krebs for being awarded a mini book grant from Delta Kappa Gamma. Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional organization for key women educators that promotes professional growth and educational excellence. Locally, it is known for awarding mini-grants to teachers in Big Rapids Public Schools.

Good morning—Big Rapids Public Schools will have a 3-hour delay today, Thursday, February 19th, due to fog and poor visibility.

When the elementary playground is too icy to play on safely, safety remains our top priority. Even with the sun shining brightly, classrooms find creative ways to enjoy the fresh air. Students head outside for supervised walks around the school grounds, soaking up the sunshine and stretching their legs. Some classes use cleared areas of the parking lot for organized games and activities, making the most of the beautiful day. With teamwork and flexibility, recess is still filled with smiles, movement, and plenty of fun—even when the playground is off limits.

National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day February 15, 2026. Today we recognize and thank our incredible School Resource Officers for the work they do every day to keep our schools safe while building positive relationships with students and staff. Our SROs are more than officers in uniform, they are mentors, role models, and trusted members of our school community. Whether guiding students, supporting educators, or simply being a friendly and familiar face in the hallway, their impact goes far beyond safety. Thank you Officer Torres for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to protecting and inspiring the next generation at the Big Rapids Public Schools. We appreciate everything you do!
