Students and staff gathered for an exciting kickoff assembly to celebrate March is Reading Month at Riverview Elementary. 📚✨ The assembly featured special guest Masked Readers who shared their love of books and read aloud to inspire students to dive into great stories all month long.
Laughter, imagination, and enthusiasm filled the room as students listened closely and discovered how fun reading can be. The kickoff set the stage for a month full of books, creativity, and adventures through reading. 📖🎉

Four classrooms from Riverview Elementary recently enjoyed a fun and educational visit to the MOCC Agricultural Center. Students had the opportunity to explore the agricultural center and learn more about animals, farming, and how agriculture plays an important role in our community.
The visit allowed students to see firsthand how food is produced and how animals are cared for. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience, and the students were excited to ask questions and discover new things. Thank you to the staff at the agricultural center for welcoming our Riverview students and sharing their knowledge! 🌾🐄📚
Mrs Wanink's, 2nd grade class, made posters for a couple of their reading buddies to wish them luck tonight as they compete in their regional championship hockey game in Tawas. The Riverview students will be cheering them on and hoping they bring home a big win! 🏒📚👏

Congratulations to Mrs. Krebs for being awarded a mini book grant from Delta Kappa Gamma. Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional organization for key women educators that promotes professional growth and educational excellence. Locally, it is known for awarding mini-grants to teachers in Big Rapids Public Schools.
Good morning—Big Rapids Public Schools will have a 3-hour delay today, Thursday, February 19th, due to fog and poor visibility.
When the elementary playground is too icy to play on safely, safety remains our top priority. Even with the sun shining brightly, classrooms find creative ways to enjoy the fresh air. Students head outside for supervised walks around the school grounds, soaking up the sunshine and stretching their legs. Some classes use cleared areas of the parking lot for organized games and activities, making the most of the beautiful day. With teamwork and flexibility, recess is still filled with smiles, movement, and plenty of fun—even when the playground is off limits.
Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 25, from 4:00–5:30 PM.

National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day February 15, 2026.
Today we recognize and thank our incredible School Resource Officers for the work they do every day to keep our schools safe while building positive relationships with students and staff.
Our SROs are more than officers in uniform, they are mentors, role models, and trusted members of our school community. Whether guiding students, supporting educators, or simply being a friendly and familiar face in the hallway, their impact goes far beyond safety.

Students enjoyed festive activities, creative crafts, and sharing kind notes with classmates and staff. It was a wonderful day filled with laughter, caring hearts, and reminders that small acts of kindness make a big difference. Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Riverview!

Riverview Elementary celebrated the 100th day of school with excitement and creativity throughout the building! Students marked this special milestone by participating in fun classroom activities, creative projects, and counting collections that highlighted all they have learned so far this year. Laughter and smiles filled the hallways as students proudly shared their “100th day” creations with classmates and teachers. We are so proud of our Riverview learners and all the growth they have shown over the first 100 days!
Last night at the Board of Education meeting, we were proud to recognize our secretaries and clerical paraprofessionals for their outstanding service to our district. They were presented with Certificates of Recognition honoring their commitment to excellence and the countless ways they help our schools run smoothly, each and every day.
Their dedication, professionalism, and behind-the-scenes support play an essential role in the success of our students, staff, and schools. We are incredibly grateful for all they do.
