Welcome Anika Jurries

Big Rapids Middle School is thrilled to welcome Anika Jurries to the team as our new Tech and Science teacher! Anika brings enthusiasm, a deep love for learning, and a strong connection to her new role as a Cardinal.

Though she was born in Holland, MI, Anika grew up in Big Rapids and proudly graduated from BRHS. She began her college journey at Grand Valley State University before transferring to Ferris State, where she completed her degree. While her family now lives in the Holland area, she frequently visits and stays close with them.

Anika is currently engaged and planning her wedding, which will take place in May of this school year! In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing pickleball with her fiancé, and singing in the Ferris State University Community Choir. She’s also an avid traveler, having explored eight different countries across three continents. Next up on her bucket list: Greece—hopefully for her honeymoon!

While this is her first official year as a classroom teacher, Anika has spent the past two and a half years substitute teaching at Big Rapids High School, including long-term roles in biology, chemistry, and English. Her passion for education started early, and she’s known she wanted to be a teacher since kindergarten. “I was always the first to raise my hand,” she shared. “I loved helping my classmates, and I’ve never grown out of that.”

Now, Anika is excited to return to her roots and continue the tradition of supporting and inspiring students at BRMS, just like so many of her teachers once did for her.

Please join us in giving a warm Cardinal welcome to Ms. Jurries!
