Introducing Big Rapids Middle School Assistant Principal, Carter Ferguson

Big Rapids Public Schools is excited to welcome Mr. Carter Ferguson as the new Assistant Principal at Big Rapids Middle School. With a passion for building strong relationships, supporting students, and creating a positive school culture, Mr. Ferguson is eager to become part of the Cardinal family.

Originally from Sparta, Michigan, Mr. Ferguson grew up in a close-knit community where he developed a love for both academics and athletics. A graduate of Sparta High School, he was a three-sport athlete, competing in baseball, basketball, and football. His success on the baseball field earned him a scholarship to Olivet Nazarene University, where he earned his degree in Special Education and Teaching. Knowing he wanted to one day serve students as a school leader, he later completed his master's degree in educational leadership at Eastern Michigan University.

Before joining Big Rapids Public Schools, Mr. Ferguson spent the past five years teaching special education in a variety of roles at Greenville High School. In addition to teaching, he coached both football and baseball, helping students grow both on and off the field.

Family is at the center of Mr. Ferguson's life. He and his high school sweetheart, Madison, have been married for four years and recently celebrated a very exciting milestone with the birth of their son, Jett, last October. Madison works as a physical therapist, and together they enjoy spending as much time as possible with family. During the summer, you'll often find them at their seasonal camper, making memories with loved ones. Mr. Ferguson also enjoys golfing, hunting, and cheering on his favorite Detroit sports teams.

When asked what drew him to Big Rapids Public Schools, Mr. Ferguson said it was the strong sense of community.

"Growing up in a smaller town made me appreciate the community aspect of school," he shared. "I want to work in a community that supports our students both in the classroom and out. Everyone I met at Big Rapids has made me feel welcomed and that they truly do care. I am excited to continue to get to know students and families and partner with them in the upbringing of their child both as a student and as an individual."

As he begins this new role, Mr. Ferguson is looking forward to getting to know students, families, and staff while helping every student feel supported, challenged, and successful.

Please join us in giving Mr. Ferguson a warm Cardinal welcome to Big Rapids Middle School and Big Rapids Public Schools!
