Big Rapids Public Schools is excited to welcome Jamie Wyatt, known to many students simply as Ms. Jamie, as the district's new Transportation Director. A proud BRPS graduate and longtime community member, Ms. Jamie brings years of transportation experience, a heart for serving students, and a deep commitment to the district that helped shape her own life.
Big Rapids has been home to Ms. Jamie since 1983. A graduate of Big Rapids High School's Class of 1996, she is especially excited to serve the same schools she attended as a student.
Before joining Big Rapids Public Schools in 2019, Ms. Jamie spent several years driving a school bus for Greenville Public Schools in South Carolina. Since returning home, she has served BRPS in the Transportation Department, building relationships with students, families, and fellow staff members before stepping into her new role as Transportation Director.
For Ms. Jamie, leading the Transportation Department is more than a career opportunity—it's a chance to give back to the community that invested in her.
"I am proud to serve the district and community that I was raised in. Still seeing so many faces that invested in me and my success is an honor!" she shared.
Family is at the center of Ms. Jamie's life. She is the proud mother of three adult children. Her oldest son, Levi, and his wife, Emily, live in Stanton with their dog, Waylon. Levi works for DTE, while Emily serves as a special education paraprofessional at Central Montcalm Elementary. Her daughter, Cami, lives in Big Rapids with her two cats, Diva and Bowie, and works as a correctional officer. Her youngest son, Codi, and his wife, Ellie, also call Big Rapids home. Codi works for DTE, and Ellie is a preschool teacher. While she says she only has "fur grandbabies" for now, she's hopeful that grandchildren will be part of the family's future.
Outside of work, Ms. Jamie enjoys spending time with family, leading worship at Resurrection Life Church in Big Rapids, and discovering new places to explore. During the summer, you'll often find her near the water, while winter is the perfect time to enjoy one of her favorite hobbies—restoring old furniture and giving it new life.
One fun fact that students and families may be surprised to learn is that, after graduating from high school in 1996, Ms. Jamie toured Europe as a singer, creating memories and experiences she'll never forget.
As Transportation Director, Ms. Jamie is committed to ensuring every student has a safe, positive, and welcoming experience from the moment they step onto a school bus.
