Big Rapids Public Schools is excited to welcome Libby Montgomery as the newest seventh-grade English Language Arts teacher at Big Rapids Middle School! A proud Big Rapids graduate and lifelong member of the community, Miss Montgomery is thrilled to begin her teaching career in the district that helped shape her own educational journey.
Although she spent her early years growing up in Petoskey, Miss Montgomery's roots have always been firmly planted in Big Rapids. Much of her childhood was spent visiting family here, creating lasting memories tubing down the Muskegon River, cooling off at the Charles E. Fairman Community Pool, exploring Clay Cliffs, and enjoying summers at the Mecosta County Fair. After moving to Big Rapids during her sophomore year of high school, she graduated from Big Rapids High School as a member of the Class of 2020.
"I absolutely loved my time as a Cardinal," she shared. "I'm excited to continue cheering on my favorite team—this time as a staff member!"
Miss Montgomery continued her education at Ferris State University, where she graduated in the spring of 2026. As a proud Bulldog, she is grateful to have had the opportunity to earn her degree close to home before beginning her career right here in Big Rapids.
Returning to BRPS was an easy decision.
"I wanted to stay local and give back to the community that I love so much," she said. "I think education is so important and has the power to change lives."
Outside the classroom, Miss Montgomery enjoys spending time with her family. She lives in Big Rapids with her parents, Chad and Sarah Montgomery, and her younger brother, Charles. Their two dogs, Beau and Buddy, always keep the family entertained.
When she's not preparing lessons or reading, you'll likely find Miss Montgomery at the movie theater or enjoying a movie at home. A self-described movie enthusiast, she loves everything about filmmaking—from acting and costume design to script writing and cinematography. During the summer, she also enjoys swimming and traveling whenever she has the opportunity.
Students may be surprised to learn that Miss Montgomery has a wide variety of interests and experiences beyond the classroom. She studied ballet for 12 years, cheered throughout all four years of high school, and was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha during her four years at Ferris State University. She also has a fun family connection to professional sports—her cousin, Victor Mancini, plays hockey in the NHL.
As she begins her first year at Big Rapids Middle School, Miss Montgomery is excited to inspire a love of reading and writing while building meaningful relationships with her students. She looks forward to creating a classroom where every student feels encouraged, challenged, and supported as they grow both academically and personally.
Please join us in giving Miss Montgomery a warm Cardinal welcome to Big Rapids Middle School and Big Rapids Public Schools!
