Big Rapids High School has once again earned recognition among Michigan’s best high schools, according to the 2026–27 Best High Schools rankings released by U.S. News & World Report.
The annual rankings evaluate nearly 18,000 public high schools across the country, using a variety of measures designed to identify schools that are successfully preparing students for their next steps after high school. The 2026–27 rankings consider factors including college readiness, state assessment performance, graduation rates, curriculum breadth, and how well schools serve students across different backgrounds.
Big Rapids High School earned a ranking of #204 in Michigan and #5,614 nationally, making it the #1 ranked high school in the Big Rapids area.
This recognition reflects the combined efforts of BRHS students, teachers, staff, families, and the district as a whole.
At Big Rapids High School, students have access to a wide range of opportunities designed to prepare them for life after graduation, including Advanced Placement courses, dual enrollment, career and technical education, athletics, fine arts, clubs, and other extracurricular activities.
While rankings provide one way to measure school performance, the recognition is also an opportunity to celebrate the people behind the numbers.
“Achievements like this are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students and staff,” said Superintendent Tim Haist. “Our teachers work every day to challenge students, support their individual needs, and help prepare them for whatever comes next. U.S. News notes that its rankings are intended to provide families with information as they consider educational opportunities. The methodology looks beyond a single measure of achievement, incorporating multiple indicators of academic performance and college readiness.
For Big Rapids Public Schools, the recognition is another reflection of the district’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to succeed.
