BCME 2025 - 8th Year in a row!

Big Rapids, MI – May 13, 2025

Big Rapids Public Schools has once again earned the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation, marking the eighth consecutive year the district has been nationally recognized for its outstanding commitment to music education.

Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) award honors school districts that demonstrate exceptional achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. This year, 935 school districts nationwide received the designation, including 21 from Michigan.

The BCME award recognizes school districts for their dedication to music as part of a well-rounded education. To qualify, BRPS completed a comprehensive survey covering topics such as music program funding, graduation requirements, student participation, instructional time, facilities, and community support. The responses were verified by district officials and reviewed by the arts education research organization WolfBrown.

Big Rapids Public Schools offers a wide range of music programs across all grade levels, including band, choir, and general music. The district is proud of its continued investment in arts education and believes in the lasting benefits music brings to students both in and out of the classroom.

BRPS would like to extend a special thank you to Albie Todd, Middle School Band Director, for taking the lead in submitting the application each year. His dedication ensures that the outstanding work of the entire music team is recognized on a national stage and helps highlight the strength and impact of music education in the Big Rapids community.
