Introducing Big Rapids High School Drama Teacher, Audree Stephens

Big Rapids Public Schools is thrilled to welcome Audree Stephens as the new Drama Teacher at Big Rapids High School! A proud BRHS graduate, accomplished artist, and award-winning screenwriter, Miss Stephens is excited to return to the place where her own passion for the performing arts first took root.

A Big Rapids native, Miss Stephens attended Big Rapids High School before pursuing her love of the arts at Northern Michigan University, where she majored in theatre and minored in dance. She later earned her Master of Fine Arts in David Lynch's Screenwriting Program at Maharishi International University.

Since completing her graduate studies, Miss Stephens has built an impressive career as a multi-genre, award-winning, represented screenwriter and director. She is also an internationally recognized musician and actress, bringing a wealth of professional experience to the classroom and stage.

Before joining Big Rapids Public Schools, Miss Stephens worked primarily as a freelance writer, filmmaker, director, and theatre technician. Her diverse creative background gives students a unique opportunity to learn from someone who has worked professionally across multiple areas of the entertainment industry.

Returning to BRHS is especially meaningful because of one teacher who helped shape her own journey.

"Lori Hathaway has been a huge inspiration for me in choosing my career path," Miss Stephens shared. "I am so fortunate to take over for her."

Outside of school, Miss Stephens enjoys watching movies, writing screenplays, and spending time with her partner, Nick Baker, and their energetic two-year-old dog, Winston. Whether she's developing her next screenplay or heading out for a night of karaoke, creativity continues to be a central part of her life.

Students may also be surprised to learn that Miss Stephens performs in a rock band called Iridescence, adding another exciting chapter to her already impressive artistic career.

As she begins her first year leading the drama program at Big Rapids High School, Miss Stephens is eager to help students discover their own talents both on and off the stage. She looks forward to creating opportunities for students to grow in confidence, creativity, collaboration, and self-expression while continuing the strong tradition of theatre excellence at BRHS.

Please join us in giving Miss Stephens a warm Cardinal welcome back to Big Rapids High School and Big Rapids Public Schools! Her journey from BRHS student to professional artist and now educator is a wonderful example of how Cardinal pride comes full circle.
